Our Story

A restaurant built on the belief that Mediterranean food — when done with real ingredients and genuine care — is some of the most satisfying food on earth.

Who We Are

Mediterranean tradition.
Columbia's dining table.

Ambrosia Taverna was born from a simple conviction: Columbia deserved a restaurant that took Mediterranean cooking seriously. Not just gyros and hummus — the full range of flavors, techniques, and hospitality traditions that make this cuisine extraordinary.

We opened on Main Street because we wanted to be in the heart of Columbia's dining scene. A place where families celebrate anniversaries, where colleagues close deals over lamb souvlaki, and where curious diners explore a cuisine that's been bringing people together for millennia.

Our kitchen uses imported Greek and Mediterranean ingredients alongside locally grown produce from South Carolina farms. We make our phyllo by hand, slow-braise our proteins, and bake our baklava fresh daily. None of that changes — regardless of how busy the Friday night rush gets.

Our Philosophy

Three principles we cook by.

Authenticity Over Shortcuts

Authentic Mediterranean cooking takes time. We don't rush the avgolemono, skip the marinade, or substitute ingredients because the real ones are worth finding.

The Table Is Sacred

In Mediterranean culture, the meal is the gathering. We design our dining experience so that sitting down together matters — not just getting fed and getting out.

Columbia Is Our Community

We're not a chain. We're a Columbia restaurant owned and operated by people who live here, source locally where we can, and care about this city's dining culture.
